Lamaze exercises for an easy birth
10 July 2023Why the child does not save the relationship with the partner
11 July 2023Birth is, as they say, a miracle. A miracle that you will only understand when it happens to you and for which you will have to start preparing at least nine months in advance. Among the lists will be organizing what you pack for maternity. When preparing it, it’s important to consider both your needs and those of your baby. Here’s a list of everything they should include!
When it comes to packing for maternity, it’s a good idea to consider packing a few weeks before your due date. That way, you’ll be prepared and have everything at hand when the big moment comes.
Mums who have been through this experience actually recommend packing two separate bags: one for mummy, one for baby. If you choose to give birth in a private maternity hospital, most of the things you and your baby need will be provided for you there. However, it’s best to find out about your benefits package from the start, so you know what you’re getting and what you need to bring from home.
In addition to your lucky charm, here’s what else you should have with you during your maternity stay!
Baggage for Mummy
- Documents (original and copy): identity card, employee’s certificate/private health insurance card (in case of admission to a private maternity hospital), marriage certificate (required for the registration of the child), and medical file with all investigations and results of prenatal tests and those done during pregnancy.
- Comfortable clothing: comfortable clothes for daytime, but also for leaving the hospital, pyjamas, nightgowns, underwear, underwear, comfortable socks/compression socks, dresses with an opening in the front to make it easy to breastfeed, a thicker gown (if you are colder and give birth in a slightly cooler month).
- Nursing bra/milking pump: make sure you have at least two nursing bras that are comfortable and appropriate for your breast size.
- Comfortable panties: choose comfortable, cotton panties that are good in size and for after pregnancy.
- Postpartum absorbent.
- Towels: make sure you have both shower towels and wet wipes for freshening up.
- Intimate hygiene items, e.g. Barza bicarbonate intimate wipes.
- Personal hygiene items: toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, shampoo, conditioner, liquid soap, body lotion, skin care cosmetics, deodorant, etc.
- Items for more comfort and relaxation: nursing pillow, slippers, day clothes, eyeglasses (if wearing), books, magazines, headphones, audiobooks, tablet, external battery.
Baby luggage
- Clothes: bodysuits, pyjamas, hats, socks and gloves, depending on the season and preferences.
- Diapers: for your baby you need enough diapers throughout the time you are at the maternity ward.
- A soft and warm baby blanket .
- Formula milk: if you don’t plan to breastfeed exclusively, prepare yourself with milk formulas suitable for newborns.
- Accessories: bottles, pacifiers, brush and comb for baby’s delicate hair, a baby thermometer, etc.
- Hygiene items: baby wipes, disposable nappies, cream, powder, shampoo, etc.
Don’t leave it to the last minute to prepare for check-in at the maternity ward. Pack your luggage in advance to make sure you don’t miss anything. It’s important to have all the comforts you and your little one need.
It’s also important to know that if you have a natural birth, you’ll be in the maternity ward for about two to three days. If you give birth by caesarean section, you will stay a little longer, about four to six days. During this period you will receive advice on caring for your little one. You’ll also be able to ask the medical staff any questions about things you’re not sure about yet.
